Dr. Craig Kilpatrick is a fourth generation Colorado native who grew up in Arvada. He graduated cum laude at CU Boulder in 1994 with a degree in molecular, cellular and developmental biology. Kilpatrick left Colorado to attend medical school at Trinity College at the University of Dublin, Ireland.

Dr. Kilpatrick completed his 5-year medical training in Dublin’s St. James’ Hospital before returning to the United States and doing his Family Medicine residency at the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque. After providing primary care in clinics in New Mexico and Colorado, Dr. Kilpatrick became frustrated with what he saw as a broken “quantity V.s. quality” health care system. He felt it was impeding his ability to practice proficient medicine.  Dr. Craig Kilpatrick is pleased to offer real quality care to his patients at PeakMed, and PeakMed is fortunate to have Dr. Kilpatrick on its team.

When Dr. Kilpatrick is not helping his patients improve their health or sewing up a wound (one of his favorite procedures), he’s playing golf, skiing, camping, enjoying time with friends or playing baseball with his young son Alex.

With an ever-changing healthcare system and frustration among both doctors and patients Dr. Tomasulo founded PeakMed Primary Care with a goal of redefining access and decreasing healthcare costs. The business of healthcare has rapidly changed over the last 15 years and as a result the doctor-patient relationship has suffered. Doctors are reluctant to enter the specialty of Family Medicine and senior mentoring physicians are retiring early. The restructuring of the healthcare system has increased costs to the patient as well as to the employer creating a barrier to true healthcare. PeakMed’s disruptive approach in healthcare has created a platform allowing doctors and patients to communicate, manage, and collaborate individualized care plans without the constraints of a broken system. PeakMed is redefining healthcare transparency, costs, technology, care coordination, and has created a continuum that is doctor centered and patient focused.

Prior to Dr. Tomasulo’s current role he held multiple positions as:

  • US Army Regional Medical Director for Aviation Medicine
  • US Army Family Physician and ICU Hospitalist
  • Associate Medical Director for Colorado Urgent Care Associates
  • Emergency Medicine physician
  • Multiple small operational deployments in support of Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom,
  • Medical Director of forward operating clinics during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Dr. Tomasulo currently holds the title of Chief Medical Officer and managing partner of PeakMed Holdings, LLC where he focuses on disruptive innovation and bending the curve of cost and access in healthcare.

Prior to entering the healthcare space, Dr. Tomasulo spent four years in the Navy as an aircraft mechanic with multiple deployments on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower and the George Washington specializing in small unit deployments in support of Operation Desert Storm.

Dr. Tomasulo obtained his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from Nova Southeastern University and completed his medical training through the United States Army. He served eight years in the Army as one of the top officers in his field and was part of small unit deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions About PeakMed

WHAT IS PEAKMED?

PeakMed is an innovative Direct Primary Care medical practice, with several Health Centers serving Denver and Colorado Springs. For a flat-rate membership (think “health club”), individuals, families and business members get unlimited access to quality health care services.

PeakMed empowers you to bypass the conventional health insurance bureaucracy, and get your primary healthcare needs without the cost and anxiety associated with insurance premiums, deductibles and co-pays.  In other words, PeakMed lets you “go direct,” with no middleman. This includes not only conventional care such check-ups, physicals and diagnosis, but also wellness care, urgent care and much more.

At PeakMed Direct Primary Care, there are no long waits, rushed or impersonal appointments.

PeakMed members can schedule same or next day appointments Monday through between the hours of 9am and 5pm. After hours, general questions and prescription refill request can be emailed to your doctor M-F during normal business hours. If you have an emergency on a weekend or after business hours, your doctor can be reached for advice 24 hours a day 7 days a week by text or telephone.

HOW ARE WE ABLE TO CHARGE SO LITTLE FOR OUR SERVICES?

The truth is, health care is not as expensive as everyone thinks. Unfortunately, a typical medical practice needs a staff of 4 to 5 people to support and process insurance coding, billing and collecting, not to mention changing patient insurance circumstances and follow-up filling. These associated costs increase the overhead of every medical practice but doesn’t do anything to improve anyone’s health.

PeakMed does it differently. By going direct, PeakMed avoids the costly overhead, and passes that savings on to our Members. Another major benefit is that with far less administrative overhead, PeakMed doctors now have far more time to invest in consultations with Member/patients.

PeakMed’s unique business model empowers our doctors to focus deeply on patient care, handling one-fourth the number of the patients of conventional primary care doctors. Your PeakMed doctor has the time to build relationships with you and other patients and provide real quality care, at an affordable price. It’s the way it used to be in private practice decades ago! Today, we are leading the direct primary care movement and setting the example on how to deliver better health care.

Questions About Insurance

DO I NEED INSURANCE TO BE A MEMBER AT PEAKMED?

Starting in 2014 the Affordable Care Act requires everyone to have health insurance or pay a penalty – we strongly recommend that you purchase health insurance to cover services not covered at PeakMed Direct Primary Care.

Your PeakMed membership does not qualify as Affordable Care Act insurance. However, your membership at PeakMed decreases overall healthcare costs by eliminating co-pays, deductibles, and urgent care visits. Also, because we are membership-driven, we can offer wholesale pricing on lab work and prescriptions, saving our members even more money.

We can assist you in finding answers to questions about finding the right health insurance to supplement your PeakMed membership.

Questions About Ancillary Services

ARE MY MEDICATIONS COVERED BY MY MEMBERSHIP?

PeakMed Health Centers have pharmacies on-site, and prescriptions can be filled the day of your doctor visit. No more having to make another stop at your drug store after your appointment.

Your PeakMed Membership entitles you to access our on-site pharmacy, with wholesale pricing on generic medications. Drug pricing ranges widely, but one example of a “Tier1” drug price can be as low as $1.25 for a month, to $8.00 for 3-month supply at a PeakMed pharmacy. This single benefit to PeakMed Members can save hundreds of dollars every year on medications alone.

WHAT LABS ARE COVERED WITH MY MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP?

Point of care testing is done inside the doctor’s office. Basic controlled testing such as urine dip testing, pregnancy testing, and strep are performed at no charge.

There is no charge for blood draws. Specimen samples are sent out to our testing lab partners for analysis and there is a charge for lab results.

PeakMed has relationships with testing labs which entitle our PeakMed Members to substantial savings at or near wholesale pricing on those services. For instance, an annual screening to measure thyroid, sugar (glucose), electrolyte and fluid balance, kidney function, cholesterol, and liver function can cost approximately $300 at a retail testing lab, compared to just $33 at a PeakMed partner lab.

WHAT IF I NEED IMAGING OR X-RAYS?

Talk with your PeakMed Doctor about this, and you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the savings you’ll experience, without sacrificing quality. PeakMed has negotiated discounts with independent imaging groups that are far below market prices. PeakMed Doctors are happy to coordinate your imagining needs and coordinate with your radiologist the follow-up care you need.

WHAT IF I NEED TO SEE A SPECIALIST?

Remember that membership fees paid to PeakMed do not cover specialist fees or fees due to any medical professional other than PeakMed Direct Primary Care; this is where your health insurance comes in. That said, your PeakMed Doctor will assist in coordinating the best specialty care you need.

After specialist care, your PeakMed doctor will help you formulate a plan (if appropriate) that includes components of further testing, medication, therapy, diet or life-style changes, education, and follow up results of treatment.
